Although we all rope sequentially, working methodically through the elements of a tie, it can sometimes be challenging to study finished ties, and especially from limited photographic evidence. Explore a systematic approach to rope deconstruction and reconstruction, with emphasis on engineered solutions for the unknowable. The class will work together in reverse engineering several example photos, followed by a guided tying session. Tying pairs will then work to reverse engineer and adapt/reconstruct additional ties, with multiple levels of complexity. Class will close with a reflection on on individual interpretations, and address the challenges and opportunities posed by incomplete information.
Aimed at an intermediate skillset, broadly defined. Students should be comfortable with a mix of chest & full torso harnesses (but no specific one necessarily), and be comfortable with abundantly/frequently-used hitches and tensions.
Nothing beyond the rope guidance in the FAQ for MRM 2025. Multiple rope colors are encouraged, but not required.
