Too often in rope, what gets called a “style” is really just borrowed shapes from tutorials and videos. This workshop is about moving past imitation and toward intention. Together, we’ll examine what actually makes a style—cohesion, rhythm, tension, line—and how both Japanese and Western approaches have developed distinctive aesthetics. Through guided discussion and hands-on exercises, you’ll learn to evaluate stylistic choices critically, experiment with combining elements that fit your goals, and begin sketching out an aesthetic that feels authentic to you. You’ll leave with tools to recognize when you’re copying, when you’re creating, and how to shape a rope practice that reflects your personality and desires.
